Read the story of God calling Prophet Abraham here (Genesis Chapter 12) and listen to what God is teaching you today.

Out of the descendants of Noah came Abram (Prophet Abraham's former name).

Abram must have learned the story of Noah and how Noah walked with God intimately and trusted Him completely. In the Torah, God had a very close relationship with Abram and spoke to Abram directly. Yet what He said was not easy for Abram!

A journey of faith

God first gave Abram a very difficult instruction:

"Leave your country, your people, your father's household and go to a land I will show you." (Genesis 12:1)

What questions would have come to Abram's mind? This was a time before Google Map and TripAdvisor!

Do I really need to leave my home? What will you show me? What will happen after I get there? Is this place safe?

It was a completely unknown future. There was nothing to fall back on (except on God).

But God made a very important promise to Abram:

"I will make you into a great nation... All peoples on earth will be blessed through you." (Genesis 12:2-3)

We all know when God says the word 'blessing', He never means money and power. It means a close relationship with Him.

What does it mean to walk with God?

God had made his promise and instructions clear, but there are so many questions unanswered. But one thing we know from the story is that Abram obeyed and left his home!

From this moment onwards, God spoke to Abram (Abraham) directly and personally. God also made it clear that the blessing was not only for Abram, but for the whole world.

But why on earth would God ask someone He loved so much to leave everything behind and walk into all sorts of danger, insecurity and uncertainty in a foreign place?

Abram had to ask God, "What can you give me?" Doubt is always part of our human nature. And God answered by repeating the same promise.

Abram chose to believe. God called him a righteous man. Righteousness is based on faith in God. He didn't need to do anything extra except putting his trust on God and obeying. He let God rule in his life with absolute sovereignty.

Walking with God doesn't mean we have all the answers about the future, but we know who controls the future and His faithfulness for us.
